Marketing Your Window Cleaning Business On Craigslist

I recently received a question from someone asking if it’s a good idea to market their window cleaning business on craigslist. He went on to ask if anyone else is doing that.

My response to this is to absolutely give craigslist a try. Any kind of marketing is worth a test to see if it brings in any business. Of course it does depend on what kind of investment is needed to run the test, but since craigslist is free to list your business and service, then you should definitely post your business information there.

I do know window cleaners who advertise on craigslist and they do receive calls. Understand though that it should never be your main source of marketing/advertising. The quality of the prospects aren’t the best, and you’ll get more price shoppers vs if they were responding to a flyer or postcard, but again, you’ll get some business from it.

For those of you reading this who aren’t familiar with craigslist, go to http://www.craigslist.org. On the right will be a list of cities in your State. Choose the city where you are doing business/want to get prospects from. Then look for a “Services” section.

There are two categories where your service would fit nicely in. The first is “skill’d trade” and the second is “sm biz ads”. You can’t post the same add in multiple categories, so create two different posts with different titles, different content in the post, etc.

More than likely before you post you’ll need to create an account with them. The webpage to go is here: https://accounts.craigslist.org/login/signup

Anyway…once you are logged in and you navigate to the proper category in the “services” section, you’ll see a small “Post” link at the top right. Click on that and create a post.

I would recommend that you use a good keyword in your post title because google does display craigslist listings in their search results. So for example, if you live in Bethesda, Maryland, then put “Professional Window Cleaning In Bethesda Maryland” or “Window Cleaning Services In Bethesday, Maryland Available” into the title spot.

The ad will run for 45 days and it’s totally free. So all that’s required is a little bit of time and you’re good to go. I would suggest that you also stick in a photo or two or three into the listing. You can read how to do that when you’re at the craigslist site. But it adds a nice personal touch to your listing and lets prospects know that you’re a real person with a real business, not some fly by nighter looking that’s here today, gone tomorrow. So include a photo of you at a customer’s house cleaning their windows and/or maybe a photo of your family.

As a side note, there are other resources where you can create free listings for your window cleaning business. For example, you can visit US Free Ads and Backpage.

As a reminder, each one of the three sites above are free to list your business in. So don’t waste another minute. List your business with ‘em right away. Have a great day.

Steve
